ALICIA LUND OF CHEETAH IS THE NEW BLACK

"Keepsakes to me are the pieces that hold special meaning. Family heirlooms, jewelry that my husband has given me, and jewelry that have Rex and Willow's names engraved."
Born and raised in Northern California, the eternally stylish Alicia Lund was an early adopter of the blogosphere with Cheetah is the New Black launched in 2009. Looking for a creative outlet, she found this community online where she could share snippets of her life, home, and style. It has evolved with her over the years and continues to be a source of inspiration for so many, including us! We got the chance to chat with Alicia about life during the pandemic, her jewelry keepsakes, and the sweet meaning of matching bracelets with her daughter Willow.

WHAT DOES KEEPSAKE MEAN TO YOU? WHAT PIECE OF JEWELRY COMES TO MIND WHEN YOU THINK OF KEEPSAKES?

Keepsakes to me are the pieces that hold special meaning––mainly family heirlooms, jewelry that my husband has given me and jewelry that have Rex and Willow's names engraved.

HOW OLD IS WILLOW AND WHY DID YOU FEEL LIKE THIS WAS THE BEST TIME TO GET HER A MATCHING BRACELET?

Willow is a little over a year and a half. She loves jewelry and it felt like a special milestone Christmas to give the diamond bracelet to her, and a piece she will grow into / wear for years to come.

WHAT DOES THE MOTHER & DAUGHTER BRACELET SET MEAN TO YOU?

The set feels like the sweetest reminder of our mother-daughter bond. And the best that's yet to come!

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE STARLING PIECE?

This past year I've worn a lot less jewelry but always wear a pinky ring. I love this diamond pavé signet.

ANY JEWELRY SUPERSTITIONS OR RITUALS?

No--but my mom wears certain rings for my sister and I when we're traveling or she wants to send us good vibes. I love that and now sometimes do the same for Rex and Willow.

WHAT ARE YOUR EVERYDAY PIECES?

I wear a dainty diamond star necklace that my mom gave me when I was pregnant with Rex (I never take it off). And usually layer a couple of additional necklaces depending on the day / outfit. I always wear my wedding band and a pinky ring, and a collection of ear hoops and studs.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PIECE OF JEWELRY? OR TOP THREE IF YOU CAN'T PICK JUST ONE!

  1. My wedding ring that I designed with Melissa Joy Manning.
  2. My Celine gold hoops that I bought while in Paris.
  3. A diamond pinky ring that I bought myself after a big project / milestone goal.

TELL US THE STORY OF GETTING YOUR EARS PIERCED!

Gosh I can't quite remember getting my ears pierced for the first time but I can remember other holes (I have quite the collection now ;) ). One hole in particular, my cartilage, was a 27th birthday present to myself. My girlfriend and I both have the same birthday so we went together in New York. I was also moving that week, and so it felt like a milestone piercing and sort of like an ode to my time in NYC.

WITH TWO CHILDREN AT HOME, WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR SAVING GRACE DURING THIS PAST YEAR?

Oh gosh––my husband! I couldn't have survived this year without him. It's been a juggle with everyone at home and my husband working from home in our guest room but we've also made some great memories and I've really loved the slower pace and extra time together. Especially all of our family dinners, which didn't always happen with my husband's work schedule in the year's past.

Thank you Alicia! We love seeing you and your sweet little one in Starling.  xoxo
