Cindy Skanderup of Bliss and Bone

Keepsake infers something with meaning. It is a symbol of something greater.

Cindy is the creative mind behind the impeccable Bliss & Bone, designing couture-inspired custom branding, stationery, and websites - including this one! So needless to say we are huge fans! She founded Bliss & Bone with her husband Carl and we couldn’t recommend them more. They are also parents to an adorable daughter, Gray. Cindy's eye for design crosses into all parts of her life and jewelry box, which is filled with beloved family heirlooms, treasured sharks teeth, and stories of a dad that pierces ears! We loved watching Gray, play with her great-grandmother's rings that Cindy wears, it's the magic of heirlooms.

WHAT DOES “KEEPSAKE” MEAN TO YOU? WHAT PIECE OF JEWELRY COMES TO MIND WHEN YOU THINK OF KEEPSAKES?

Keepsake infers something with meaning. It is a symbol of something greater. I think of the jewelry that has been passed down through generations or gifted for a special occasion of a life moment.

For me, these would be various items that belonged to both of my grandmothers. In particular, they both loved rings so I have several favorites I switch out.

FIRST JEWELRY MEMORY?

My family is Mexican so I had my ears pierced the day I was brought home from the hospital. Tiny gold balls that stayed in my ears for as long as I can remember. Jewelry has been a part of my entire life. I remember playing in my mom’s jewelry stash all the time and now my daughter does the same. It’s a powerful thing on so many levels.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PIECE IN YOUR JEWELRY BOX?

Aside from the more meaningful items like my wedding or engagement ring, I wear a gold shark tooth necklace 24/7 - I never take it off.  My husband gave it to me the day we launched our business. It represents so much to me about our relationship, life, and partnership.

ANY JEWELRY SUPERSTITIONS OR RITUALS?

Not really but if I had to take any of it off I’d definitely feel naked and exposed.

WHAT ARE YOUR EVERYDAY PIECES OF JEWELRY?

I have 6 diamond studs in my ears plus a tiny gold hoop. My gold shark tooth necklace from my husband. Wedding band and engagement ring.

My grandmother’s wedding ring - she just passed away this past fall.

ANY FAVORITE ANTIQUE PIECES?

I have diamond earrings that were made from diamonds brought over by my family from Europe. I’d say it’s pretty vintage!

WHAT JEWELRY HAVE YOU BOUGHT RECENTLY?

I bought 4 diamond studs to fill up the additional 4 holes I put in my ears!

HOW MANY JEWELRY BOXES DO YOU OWN?

I have a drawer in my wardrobe with all of my jewelry neatly organized and laid out so I can see it. If I can’t see it, I won’t wear it.

FAVORITE STARLING DESIGN?

I love the black diamond bar necklace. So dainty and delicate yet unique and strong.

TELL US THE STORY OF GETTING YOUR EARS PIERCED!

My dad pierced them at home the day I was brought home from the hospital. I was probably 2 days old. He pierced my second holes as well when I turned 12. Maybe starting so early is what lead to me having 7 holes in my ear to date!

Thanks, Cindy & Gray!!

xoxo
