For me, my most special keepsakes are items I’ve acquired during distinct, meaningful times in my life.
Jacqui is the founder and force behind Baby Boy Bakery - and a mother of two. Baby Boy Bakery started as a blog where Jacqui wrote about being a mom and created yummy recipes. Since the loss of her son, Ryan, Jacqui has transformed the blog into a space dedicated to his enormous spirit with the motto: Live Loud, Live Wild. Now, Jacqui uses her platform to help families create lasting memories through journaling and monthly cooking kits (which are so fun)!
We are thrilled to announce that Jacqui has designed three pieces for a very special Mother's Day jewelry collaboration with us! Over the last year of planning this collabo, we have just fallen heads over heels for Jacqui... really it only takes a few minutes with her to feel the love. The collection will launch April 25, 2017 and will only be available for a limited time: May 25th is the last day, so be on the look out! Until then, take a peek into Jacqui's jewelry box with her and her adorable daughter Mila; it's filled with only the most treasured keepsakes that Jacqui wears everyday.
What does “keepsake” mean to you? What piece of jewelry comes to mind when you think of keepsakes?
Keepsake jewelry doesn’t have to be an old heirloom piece. For me, my most special keepsakes are items I’ve acquired during distinct, meaningful times in my life.
First jewelry memory?
I remember my sister and I going through my Grandma Cookie’s jewelry and putting everything on. She has a turquoise ring that I LOVE. When I see her wearing it I can still feel her soft hands brushing my hair out of my face as I slowly fell asleep in her lap when I was little.
What is your favorite piece in your jewelry box?
I’m minimal when it comes to jewelry. I love simple jewels that tell a story. Right now at the age of 32 the pieces I wear showcase my life and what is most important to me. I envision myself at 80 dripping with jewelry and gifting it to my grandkids as I tell them vivid stories of my past.
My favorite piece of jewelry is a simple silver necklace with a circle ‘R’ charm. The ‘R’ is for my son Ryan. When I found out I was pregnant with my son I was beyond scared and truthfully not ready to be a parent. When we found out my baby was a boy it flooded me with so many emotions. My husband (who was my boyfriend at the time) and I decided to name our son Ryan. My mom bought me this necklace before Ryan was born and told me I was going to be an amazing mom. I haven’t taken off the necklace in 6 years.
I also love my engagement ring that sits nestled between my two wedding bands. Simply because it reminds me of being proposed to in front of the castle at Disneyland and our son watching from his stroller.
Any jewelry superstitions or rituals?
I never take off my wedding ring. Not because I’m superstitious but because I’m scared of ever loosing it. So, most of the time it is caked with lotion and flour from baking. I get it cleaned and checked every four months and it just never comes off.
What are your everyday pieces of jewelry?
I wear my wedding rings, my ‘R’ necklace and a tiny silver band that has a ‘D & J’ engraved on it. The ‘D & J’ is for Dan & Jacqui. (My husbands name is Dan)
Any favorite antique pieces?
The only piece of jewelry I have that is “antique” is my mother’s engagement ring my father gave her. Though it doesn’t fit me, so I have it tucked away safely.
What jewelry have you bought recently?
I haven’t bought any jewelry, though I’m on the hunt for two simple bands that house my children’s birthstones. I need a piece of jewelry that resembles Mila and the pure light she has given us.
How many jewelry boxes do you own?
I don’t have a box, I have a plate in my bathroom. A tiny white plate that sometimes I put things on but mostly it just houses my glasses. I like to wear jewelry that I don’t have to take off. I’d loose my head if it weren’t attached to me, so I keep all my keepsakes on.
Favorite Starling design?
My dream would be to stack a few Colette Pave Bands and Olive Bezel Rings. Each would pertain to my children. I also adore the Olive Solitare necklace. Plus, my new Starling collaboration is pretty incredible. I love the way the handwritten word sits on your neck and meaning behind each one. Meaningful jewelry is the best kind of jewelry!
Tell us the story of getting your ears pierced.
I was four months old and I remember that day like it was yesterday…
Kidding. Though I’d imagine it was similar to when I took my daughter Mila to get her ears pierced. She was four months old I took her to Claire’s at the mall. Mila cried for a few minutes and then it was over. In my family we get our ears pierced when we are babies and I think nothing is cuter than a baby girl with tiny glimmers of glam.
Thanks Jacqui & Mila!!
