Meredith Baird of Nucifera

Meredith Baird is the founder of the natural beauty brand Nucifera Body, creator of our favorite natural beauty product ‘The Balm’. We seriously swear by this stuff! We are always trying to bring more and more natural products into our lives, and this balm is a can't-miss when it comes to paring down and cleaning up your routine.

Further making her mark in the health and wellness world, Meredith is a certified raw food chef, co-author of three books, and in 2015 released her first solo title, Coconut Kitchen. Her work is largely based upon the belief that our health and well-being is tied directly to what we put in and on our bodies. Her products aim to simplify your routine and let nature do most of the work.

We spent an afternoon with Meredith in her beautiful remodeled Venice home, talking about heirlooms, her husband’s keen eye for jewelry, and wearing even your most special pieces regularly.

WHAT DOES “KEEPSAKE” MEAN TO YOU? WHAT PIECE OF JEWELRY COMES TO MIND WHEN YOU THINK OF KEEPSAKES?

I'm not much of an archivist, so I can't say that I identify much with the word keepsake. They sort of stress me out! Of course I have things that are super valuable to me, but I try to be careful with how much weight I put on them.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PIECE IN YOUR JEWELRY BOX?

Everything that my husband has given me is really meaningful. Not just the fact that he has great taste, but he's also really understood me and my style from the very beginning.

Our first Christmas together he got me this really great cuff from the jeweler Odette. I wear it every single day. It's perfect.

My engagement ring. Which is a huge deal for many reasons, but I also know that he put a ton of time and thought into designing it. It's sort of the perfect example of his personality, great taste, and eye for detail.

And... all of it honestly. I don't buy jewelry often or impulsively, so I really feel so grateful for anything I own.

ANY JEWELRY SUPERSTITIONS OR RITUALS?

I wear my jewelry. I don't believe in keeping the nice stuff in a safe all the time. What's the point!?

WHAT JEWELRY HAVE YOU BOUGHT RECENTLY?

I keep filling my left ear up with holes, Starling Small Diamond Hoops and Stacy Nolan huggies.

FIRST JEWELRY MEMORY?

I was always obsessed with getting my ears pierced to wear "dangly" earrings. The first pair that I vividly remember my mom bought for me in this little shop in Paris. They were peridot, and I still have them. I felt super cool wearing them.

HOW MANY JEWELRY BOXES DO YOU OWN?

I don't own a jewelry box! And I can't tell you where I keep it!

WHAT ARE YOUR EVERYDAY PIECES OF JEWELRY?

Filling my ear up with little hoops, an Odette cuff my husband purchased for me for our first Christmas together, and my various rings - from engagement to ones that I've had forever. I don't think of myself as wearing a lot of jewelry, but I definitely wear what I have and on a daily basis and it kind of adds up.

ANY FAVORITE ANTIQUE PIECES?

My oldest piece of jewelry is this little emerald that I've had on my finger for probably 20 years. I think I got it for my 13th birthday from my mom, but truly almost can't remember the exact occasion. It feels like a good luck charm because it's been with me for so long. I just recently took it off, but kind of miss it.

FAVORITE STARLING DESIGN?

I don't think I can choose! I love it all, and the accessibility and wearability of it all! Right now I am especially loving the Emerald Pave Ring.

TELL US THE STORY OF GETTING YOUR EARS PIERCED.

My grandmother took me to Claire's a year before I was allowed to! I remember coming home and my mom was kind of annoyed and shocked. They closed up and got re-pierced so many times. Getting them done for the first time was literally one of the most exciting days of my life!
