Photo Tips & Tricks With Gabs

Surprisingly, jewelry is one of the hardest products to shoot! You want to keep the aesthetics there, but also be able to see an up close and personal vantage point of the beautiful jewels! Here are some of my tips I always keep in mind when shooting Starling jewelry:

1. Focus

Make sure your jewels are in focus or you will get a blurred image and won’t see the details. I’d recommend holding as still as possible, continuously tapping on your screen where the jewelry is to get in focus as much as possible.

2. Lighting

Make sure your jewels are in focus or you will get a blurred image and won’t see the details. I’d recommend holding as still as possible, continuously tapping on your screen where the jewelry is to get in focus as much as possible.

3. Background

Keep in mind the background of the shot and let it be a compliment to the jewelry. Whether that means keeping it minimal with a simple backdrop, or more lifestyle-focused with a pair of jeans in the background.

4. Video Quality

I prefer to always shoot in 4K-60 because it shows the quality of the gems in the best light and very clear. I love using 4k-60 and zooming in 2x because it keeps its focus nicely, while getting a closer shot of the jewels. If you want to get an up close and personal shot, be sure to switch the iPhone setting to 4K-60 and you’re able to put your lens right up to the gem and get in focus content!

5. Not Not A Hand Model

Keep your hands and nails hydrated and manicured! I think jewelry always looks that much better when the hands are looking clean, especially if you’re not blessed with hand-model-hands. We love using Ten Over Ten products at the office to keep the hands glowing.
