Carly Cushnie  is the CEO and Designer of her namesake brand Cushnie, a swoon-worthy ready-to-wear label that has been delivering elegant silhouettes to the likes of Michelle Obama, Beyonce, and all the in-the-know ladies since 2008. Balancing two wonderful daughters under two, Santiago and Quincy, and running Cushnie, all the while navigating life in New York City during a pandemic has given Carly the perfect opportunity to slow down and focus. Like many of us, Carly has found finding new inspiration and the constant juggle challenging. She stays but rooted in one very important non-negotiable - girlfriends! We can relate to 100%. Carly's jewelry style is also 100% relatable with every day stacks that are sparkly, meaningful, and timeless. 

 

WHAT DOES KEEPSAKE MEAN TO YOU?

A keepsake is something of sentimental value. A piece that I hold very dear to my heart is this beautiful floral ring with multi-colored stones. It was my best friend's mother's ring and she gave it to me to wear at my wedding. It's so unique and special and means the world to me. 

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE STARLING PIECE?

 My Starling design is my North Star Signet ring, I absolutely adore it.

ANY JEWELRY SUPERSTITIONS OR RITUALS? 

I've started wearing a diamond evil eye bracelet and now don't like to be without it. I think we could all do with a little extra protection these days.

WHAT ARE YOUR EVERYDAY PIECES?

Diamond huggies, necklace with my daughters' initials, a collection of rings, and now our special mother and daughter bracelets that my girls and I all have.

 

 

HOW HAVE YOUR INSPIRATIONS & DESIGNS EVOLVED OVER THE PAST 6 MONTHS?

The last 6 months have definitely given me time to reflect and take a step back and focus on what's important as a business owner, as a creative, and as a wife and mother. It's definitely a weird time to feel inspired, especially when we are spending so much time indoors. But this time changes your perception of things and allows you to find inspiration in things you never thought you would have. 

WHAT ARE YOUR NON-NEGOTIABLES THAT HELP YOU FEEL "HUMAN" WHILE JUGGLING MOTHERHOOD, CAREER, RELATIONSHIPS, WELLNESS, AND MORE?

Girlfriends. Even if we haven't been able to see each other much during this crazy year, talking, laughing, and catching up whether over zoom or in person over wine is so important for me and its food for my soul.

WITH TWO LITTLE ONES AND A RECENT SHIFT TO WFH, HOW DO YOU MANAGE TO GET EVERYTHING DONE AND FIND TIME FOR YOURSELF?

I don't always get everything done, and I've started to learn that that's ok. Sometimes just recognizing that and not beating yourself up over it enables you to be more productive in the things you do manage to get done. It's a constant juggle and life feels super crazy much of the time but I do try and fit in brief moments for myself. Even if it's the quickest workout or applying a face mask while doing something else, it's so important to remember to take care of yourself too.
